Indianmandarins
has reliably learnt that the Committee of Secretaries met last Thursday to select new Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). The
Chairman post fell vacant after the voluntary retirement (VRS) of Pranab Kumar
Das was accepted and came into effect on 31.12.2019. Later, Dr John Joseph was given
additional charge for a period of three months or till the appointment of a
regular incumbent. Reportedly,
the CoS interviewed Ashok Kumar Pandey (IRS C&CE:1983), Sandeep Mohan
Bhatnagar (IRS C&CE:1984) and M Ajit Kumar (IRS C&CE:1984). If some top sources are to be believed M Ajit Kumar has fair chances to be picked for the top job. Pandey
and Bhatnagar were appointed Member, CBIC in February last year whereas Ajit
Kumar was made Member in December 2019. Indianmandarins
further learnt that the ACC approval may take time as there were issues of clearances
from crucial departments relating to a particular candidate. Further,
it is believed that the NaMo administration is of the view that Dr Joseph
should act as an officiating Chairman till March-April.
