In a surprise move following the
feud between the No. 01 and No. 02 in CBI, the NaMo administration has made
Joint Director M Nageshwar Rao (IPS:1986:OR) as interim chief of the
investigative agency with immediate effect. Reportedly, the charges of Jt Director Policy & Anti-corruption have also been taken away from A K Sharma (IPS:1987:GJ), a Jt Director level officer who held the charge of ADG level post. CBI Director Alok Verma
(IPS:1979:UT) and and Special Director Rakesh Asthana (IPS:1984:GJ) are said to
have been sent on leave. Early morning it was reported that 10th and 11th floor housing the offices of
both the officers were seized but later CBI officials informed Indianmandarins that none of the floors and offices were sealed for that matter. Though Nageshwar Rao is
empanelled to hold ADG level post and also holding the additional charge of ADG
for last few months but yet to be posted as ADG. Keeping in view the same it is
probably for the first time in the history of CBI that a Joint Director rank
officer would be functioning as interim chief.

Legal experts believed that CBI chief appointment is under Lokpal Act. His authority is non-transferable till the period of his tenure. Legally this action may be challenged. Delhi CM and AAP leader Arwind Kejriwal has already raised the questions on the development.
