New Delhi (15.03.2026): Ahead of the high-stakes Assembly Elections in West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), on Saturday, effected a strategic rejig of the crucially important Director General of Income Tax (Investigation) positions in Kolkata, Kochi, and Chennai; a pivotal role within the revenue machinery, which focuses on financial irregularities, tax evasion, and spearheading search and seizure operations.
Key Postings & Transfers:
Yogesh Kumar Verma (IRS IT: 1990): Currently overseeing investigation operations for the Bihar and Jharkhand region as DGIT (Investigation), Patna, Verma has been moved to the high-pressure charge of DGIT (Investigation), Kolkata. Notably, he will continue to hold the additional charge of DGIT (Investigation), Patna, ensuring continuity in the Bihar-Jharkhand region during a critical administrative transition.
Anurag Srivastava (IRS IT: 1993): Srivastava, who was recently serving as OSD in the rank of Chief Commissioner (IT) in Mumbai, has been assigned the responsibility of DGIT (Investigation), Kochi (Kerala Region). Srivastava brings significant inter-departmental experience to the role, having previously served on central deputation as JS & FA in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) in Mumbai.
Arun Chinnan Bharat (IRS IT: 1991): Moving from his role as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT), Coimbatore, Bharat has been appointed as DGIT (Investigation), Chennai. His deep familiarity with the Tamil Nadu is expected to bolster the department’s oversight during the intense poll season.
Interim Arrangements:
In a consequential move to fill the vacancy created by Bharat’s transfer, Siripurapu Padmaja (IRS IT: 1992) has been assigned the additional charge of CCIT, Coimbatore. Padmaja, a senior officer of the 1992 batch, will manage this critical industrial cluster alongside her existing responsibilities.
