The DoPT issued an order on Monday amending its 2014 rules on declaration of assets by public servants. The amendment extends the date for filing of annual returns on assets and liabilities of public servant from April 15 to July 31, 2016.
The amendment has not come a day too late because senior officials were too disturbed by the approaching deadline for filing the returns on their assets and liabilities. Indeed, it would not be out of place to state that this rule that requires an officer to count and list every piece of assets of their spouses are most regressive and looks like a bad patch on the slate of good governance.
