Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that the PMO has cleared about 150 additional posts (encadred for CSS officers) in the rank of Deputy Secretary & Director. An announcement to this effect may be made soon after cadre restructuring of CSS is complete. Sources said once executed, the measure may clear the promotional avenues of CSS cadre which has been blocked due to the shortage of sanctioned posts. Officers serving in the rank of Under Secretary have been waiting for their promotion for over a year. Reportedly, about 70 posts of DS/Dir are lying vacant due to retirement. After the announcement of the creation of 150 posts, it will pave the way for promotion of approx 220 CSS officers. Currently, there are 600 sanctioned posts of DS/Dir for CSS cadre. Added to 150 additional posts, it will total 750. It may be noted that it is the Central Secretariat Service (SCC) forms the backbone of Indian bureaucracy at the center as it provide support and continuity of the governmental system in the Central Government Secretariat.
