[caption id="attachment_23600" align="alignleft" width="288"]                        File Photo[/caption] Officials and Ministers concerned are exploring the possibility of aligning the state polls scheduled for November-December 2018 with the next Lok Sabha election after preponing the latter. The exercise is intended to explore how to align Lok Sabha and state polls - over time if not in one go - in keeping with PM Modi's oft-repeated view that staggered assembly elections disrupt governance and are a financial burden. Even former Lok Sabha secretary general Subhash C Kashyap and a group of secretaries had made the same points as done by the PM. It is pointed out that the job is doable because it will not require complicated measures such as an amendment to the Constitution.
