Airport Authority of India has approved the expansion and upgradations plan for Tirupati and Kadapa airports in Andhra Pradesh. To cost Rs. 177.10 Crore, the Tirupati project will include the strengthening of the existing runway to accommodate wide-body aircraft for international operations. The project will be completed within 24 months from the date of commencement of work. The runway at Kadapa will be strengthened for the operation of A-320 type of aircraft. The project will include Taxiway and Apron along with the construction of Isolation Bay, Pavement against Blast Erosion, Runway End Safety Areas (RESA) and perimeter road, grading of strips etc. The AAI has entered into a MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government for improving this airport and will be spending an amount of Rs 94.44 crore.
