New Delhi (07.01.2023): Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)Mumbai Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede’s plea seeking protection from search, seizure or arrest was turned down by the Delhi High Court on January 6, 2023. When Wankhede had said that although he does not have the communication or the intimation but he has been informed orally that some proceedings have been initiated against him.
This is to recall that Wankhede came into the limelight after the arrest of Aryan Khan, son of Shah Rukh Khan, for allegedly having some banned drugs in his possession for which he was later acquitted. A long political slugfest took place in Mumbai and the issue of bureaucrats playing in the hands of politicians too surfaced. His case not only became BJP versus MVA in Maharashtra but Hindu-Muslim as well. Now, a case is stated to have been initiated after Assistant Director General, NCB sent an intimation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). But Wankhade does not have official communication.
On this, former Union Secretary for Education (HRD) and Coal Anil Swarup took to the Tweeter which has certain inherent meaning for every bureaucrat to learn from. He tweeted, “Sameer Wankhede's case should be a lesson to all civil servants. Hankering for publicity can land you in trouble. No one will come to protect you if you aren't useful. And, you can't allow any unscrupulous politician to 'use' you. That is not just "Ardh Satya" but the whole truth.”
