New Delhi (09.09.2024): The longest serving Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, former CEO of Prasar Bharati and TMC Rajya Sabha member Jawhar Sircar (Retd IAS: 1975: WB) resigned from the Upper House protesting against the Mamata Banerjee government for mishandling the R G Kar Medical College doctor’s rape and murder case. An active member of a powerful pressure group of retired secretaries, chief secretaries, director generals of police, ambassadors and others known as the 'Constitutional Conduct Group', writes in his letter of resignation without mincing words that the TMC government mistook people’s protest as a political one.

He expressed his anguish by saying that he repeatedly failed to get audience of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to discuss things with her privately for months, forcing him to take such a drastic decision with his commitment to fight corruption, communalism and authoritarianism in the Centre and the States is simply non-negotiable.

He also wrote in his resignation that he did not find the same Mamta for handling the R G Kar case that he knew all along. He resigned from the Prasar Bharati CEO post in 2016 before his term ended as he was not comfortable with the NDA government as he was appointed to the post by the UPA government.
