The NaMo administration is
reportedly working out the methodology to implement Niti Aayog's recommendation
made last year to reduce about 61 civil services categories to about three or
four. Speculations in this regard
gathered strength following the DoPT preparing a five-year vision document
which focuses on reducing the number of civil services categories to harmonize
the functioning of the government and to ensure better delivery of government
services. Although it's not clear as yet how
the government may reduce about 60 services into three categories, it's
speculated that it might be done by way of bringing all non-technical services
under the category of Indian Administrative Service, all police and security
related services under the Indian Police Service and all technical services under
the umbrella of Indian Technical Service.
