Women sarpanches from across the states to be felicitated for ODF contribution

The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation will organize a mass event on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8th, 2017, to honor about 6000 women Swachhagrahi sarpanches from ODF (Open Defecation Free) Gram Panchayats across the country.
Over 1.6 lakh villages and over 100 districts have already been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF). Women across the country have championed the cause of a Swachh Bharat at the grassroots and have played a leading role in the progress made so far. Thus the Swachh Bharat Mission has transformed into a Jan Andolan and has led to a significant gain, says an official release.
The Mahatma Mandir, Gujarat has been chosen as the felicitation venue. The gathering will be addressed by PM Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, and the Gujarat CM.
