Bengaluru (08.05.2025): With incumbent Director
General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka Dr Alok Mohan (IPS: 1987: KN) scheduled to
retire on May 21, 2025, speculation is rife about who would be the next police
chief of the state. As barely a fortnight left for the appointment of the next
police chief, speculation around two senior IPS officers -- Prashant Kumar
Thakur (IPS: 1992: KN) and M A Saleem (IPS: 1993: KN) -- has intensified. But there
are two more names in the reckoning -- K Ramachandra Rao (IPS: 1993: KN) and
Pronab Mohanty (IPS: 1994: KN). Mohan was
appointed DGP on May 22, 2023 after his predecessor -- then police chief
Praveen Sood -- was appointed Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
