The Union Govt sacked Jawahar Lal Kaul, Vice-Chancellor of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. He was found guilty of administrative irregularities. He was appointed V-C by the incumbent government in November 2014. President of India had approved his dismissal this week.
This is the first instance of Modi Govt of removing its own appointee in a central university. Kaul is the third VC of a Central University- after Sushanta Dattagupta of Visva-Bharati University and Chandra Krishnamurthy of Pondicherry University- to be dismissed by the MHRD post May 2014.
