Who will be next Chief Justice of India after the outgoing CJI Deepak Misra would complete his tenure on October 2 this year? As per the convention the senior most SC Judge Ranjan Kumar Gogoi is considered as the natural successor to Justice Misra. But some senior legal experts foresee a unique scenario ahead. There is a possibility of a surprise move to pick the successor of Mishra.
Law Minister's recent statement over the prospective successor appeared a common statement for the public in general. But some senior jurists and legal experts admired and termed his statement spontaneous, appropriate and politically correct which instead of leaving any fodder for further speculation termed it as a prerogative of the outgoing CJI to recommend his successors name to the govt.
Those who understand the inside affairs well say that the minister's statement itself was an indicator that the government has something specific in the store which would be unveiled at an appropriate time and in an appropriate manner as it has to be a 'politically correct' move.
