Two IPS officers get big role in the probe committees constituted by WB CM

KOLKATA (19.05.2026): The West Bengal government has appointed Damayanti Sen (IPS: 1996: WB), an ADGP rank officer, as Member Secretary of the commission probing cases involving violence, harassment and atrocities against women and girl children across the state. This panel will be chaired by retired judge Justice Samapti Chatterjee.

The second commission is constituted under retired judge Justice Biswajit Basu who will head the commission tasked with examining institutional corruption. K Jayaraman (IPS: 1997: WB), an ADGP rank officer, has been appointed Member Secretary.

Damayanti Sen is widely known for handling several sensitive and high-profile investigations including Park Street case, making her return with one of the most talked-about aspects of the government's announcement. Panels are expected to begin their work from June 1, 2026.

The decision on these panels was announced after the state cabinet meeting by senior BJP leader and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who described it as the fulfilment of a major election promise made by the BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the Assembly campaign.
