New Delhi (08.05.2021): It's more than a month since the UPSC returned the list of 12 IPS officers sent by the Maharashtra government for consideration and selection of state DGP. The list was sent on March 18 and returned in the first week of April with the UPSC requesting for the addition of two more names and the complete ACRs (including the details of any pending inquiry) of all the officers to be considered for the post of the chief of state constabulary.
While the selection of the state DGP may not be what management science calls a 'wicked problem', the pulls and pressures in the MVA alliance might have turned the issue into a knotty problem.
The first list, that was returned, included the names of Sanjay Pande (IPS:1986:MH) who at present holds the additional charge of Maharashtra DGP. It also included the names of DGP (Anti-Corruption) Rajnish Seth (IPS:1988:MH), Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant N Nagrale (IPS:1987:MH), and others.
The revised list may reportedly see the addition of the names of Jaijeet Singh (IPS:1990:MH) and Sadanand Vasant Date (IPS:1990:MH).
Once the complete list and details are sent, the UPSC will select a panel of three officers and send the panel to the state government to choose and pick one from the panel as state DGP.
