Days after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared the appointment of P K Purwar to the post of CMD, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, the power corridors are abuzz with news of an ongoing inter-service rivalry.
Indianmandarins has learnt that Purwar's rivals left no stone unturned and filed a complaint against him with the Central Vigilance Commission. Purwar, a 1990 batch officer of IP&TAFS, was opposed severely from other service considered close rival (Indian Telecom Service (ITS) & IP&TAFS). However, the NaMo administration set aside all the objections and went by the merit to appoint Purwar as CMD. Purwar had opted BSNL on an absorption basis and later became Director (Finance) in MTNL. MTNL was running headless after the retirement of A K Garg in May 2014. This provided Purwar with the additional charge of CMD and he finally made it as regular CMD despite efforts to tarnish his reputation.
