Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that a panel of three names has been made for the post of DG, Railway Protection Force. Special Director IB, Sunil Sinha (IPS:1983) is said to be the front-runner for the job. Reportedly two officers from the freshly empanelled (DG) batch are also on the panel. The post fell vacant on June 30 following the retirement of Surendra Kumar Bhagat (IPS:1982:UD) but throughout his tenure, his appointment remained under a cloud from the judicial viewpoint. Again the same situation prevails. Despite its willingness to name the next DG for RPF, the government can not take steps forward until the Delhi High Court vacates its stay which is expected by July 31. The RPF cadre has constantly put the NaMo administration under pressure through petitions in higher judiciary claiming that the RPF top post should be encadred only for RPF cadre as they are firmly footed into the railway network and have the lifetime experience in handling railway security. On the other hand, the IPS cadre strongly advocates that the pan-Indian nature of Railway Security asks for coordination with not only with all the states but intelligence agencies to share inputs for security purposes. The IPS cadre claims that keeping in view the nature of Railway security and protection, the exposure and experience of IPS officers make them fit for the top job.
