New Delhi (25.03.2026): If top sources are to be believed, the much-awaited Secretary-level reshuffle at the Centre is expected to lean heavily toward lateral shifts of incumbent officers rather than a large-scale induction of new faces.
While the administrative corridors have been buzzing with anticipation, insiders suggest that the core of the upcoming order will involve moving existing Secretaries from their current departments to other key ministries to fill critical vacancies and realign policy priorities.
Although the 1995 batch of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), including a few from 1994, 1993, 1991 and 1990 batches, was recently empanelled to hold Secretary-equivalent posts, their immediate elevation to full Secretary roles in this round is likely to be limited. Fresh appointments from this batch are expected to be strategic but fewer in number compared to the reshuffling of seasoned seniors.
