New Delhi (18.10.2022): The Apex Court reprimanded the Nagaland government for giving extension to Director General of Police (DGP) T J Longkumer (IPS: 1991: NL) for six months after his superannuation. The SC asked the state government to recommend a fresh panel of names of eligible IPS officers from the state cadre to the UPSC for the appointment of a new DGP. The UPSC will take a decision on the names suggested in the panel by November 30.
The Court also objected to the fact that the incumbent DGP was part of the meeting of the state Police Establishment Board headed by the Chief Secretary which had recommended his extension. Longkumer was appointed as the DGP on June 27, 2018. He was given a one-year extension last year till August 31, 2022. This year he was again given an extension of six months.
