Sanjeev Kaushik (IAS:1992:KL) was appointed a Member of the Securities & Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on November 07. In February 2015 he was appointed ED, IIFCL and later promoted as the Dy MD of IIFCL and currently hold the additional charge of Chairman & MD of IIFCL.
Immediately after his appointment, power corridors were abuzz with speculations about the reasons for this development. That's because, in 2005-06, he had applied for VRS and later withdrew it.
Interestingly, he is said to have requested the authorities for his premature repatriation to the cadre state of Kerala three months ahead of his completion of 07 years tenure at the center -which is still under process. Meanwhile, he has been appointed as a Member of SEBI which would enable him to continue to serve at the Centre. Sources said the NOC from the state govt is yet to be cleared in his case.
Sanjeev Kaushik has the rare distinction of being the only officer who resigned from IAS, and his resignation was formally accepted and he withdrew it after 5 years. On sabbatical from the IAS he worked with Lehmann Brothers & HSBC . Later, he moved to the center and served as a Director & then Jt Secretary (Financial Markets) in the Department of Economic Affairs (Finance Ministry). He worked closely with SEBI and RBI on regulatory committees for FIIs/FPIs, HLCECB, Depository Receipts, International Financial Centre, etc.
