New Delhi (04.04.2023): The Narendra Modi-led New Delhi establishment and the BJP groomed by Modi-Shah have their own ways and means to reward and punish. For them time of the decision also matters a lot when it suits the most to fructify and surprises have become the brand equity of the ruling dispensation. So springing another surprise with the nomination of Saket Mishra son of Nripendra Mishra, former Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, as MLC in Uttar Pradesh Assembly, the message seems to be loud and clear for all and sundry that the Centre rules the roost on every matter be it appointment of Chief Secretary or DGP or MLC. Once the most powerful bureaucrat of the country during Modi 1.0 and for a brief period of Modi 2.0, Mishra suddenly resigned in August 2019 amid speculation that he had fallen from the favour of the present dispensation; but it was not so, as a section of top sources often says.

But he was appointed as the chairperson of the executive council of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in January 2020. He was also elected as the chairman of the temple construction committee of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in February 2020. They all were dubbed as consolation appointments but these issues are actually very dear to the incumbent ruling dispensation. Now, having his son getting nominated to Vidhan Parishad those decisions have several meanings; first the government did not sideline Mishra as reports were doing rounds; second the government used his services to build up some academic narrative by sending him to Nehru Memorial which is an ocean of information largely remaining untapped; third by appointing him chief of Ram Janmabhoomi Temple construction the Centre controls hold over construction activities and to deal with the state administration including bureaucracy and fourth with his son being appointed as MLC the government has also attempted to keep Brahmins of Uttar Pradesh in good humour. So, the overall message is whether for the bureaucracy or politics that the Centre is still ruling the roost contrary to the view of a new emerging power centre in Lucknow as nomination of Mishra was not done without the intervention of the Central leadership. The final point for now is that no decision in the Modi government is meaningless whatsoever. And who knows if its just a prelude before Saket is considered or fielded in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
