IPS officer VV Lakshminarayana, who took voluntary retirement as Maharashtra ADG last year, may have already joined Telugu Desam Party and may contest from Bheemili constituency in Visakhapatnam district.

Before quitting, he had requested the Maharashtra government for deputation to rural development service.

He went around AP trying to reach farmers and youth. He began his new journey from Yazili village in Guntur district. However, his efforts remained more of an NGO activity than culminating in political consolidation.

Several political parties have approached him with decent offers. Lok Satta founder Jaya Prakash Narayan is said to have requested him to take the reins of the party. Though Lakshminarayana appeared to have liked it, he has remained noncommittal.

The TDP leadership showed interest in roping in the retired bureaucrat with a considerable fan following to contest an Assembly seat from Bheemili. A minister is said to have met him two days ago and convinced him to accept the offer.

Lakshminarayana actually hails from Rayalaseema region but may contest the election battle from North coastal Andhra.

As a joint director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Lakshminarayana tackled several sensational cases including Obulapuram mining scam - involving former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhana Reddy, Satyam Computers scam involving B Ramalinga Raju and the disproportionate assets and quid pro quo cases against YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy and Emaar Properties scam in Hyderabad.

The 53-year old IPS officer is said to have a huge fan following among the youth, women, and intellectuals in the state.
