Railways: Fate of 20 Additional Member level posts hangs in balance

By IndianMandarins- 29 Nov 2019

There has been murmuring among senior officers belonging to eight different cadres under the Ministry of Railways as they find their career progression hanging in balance.

In a cadre restructuring approx fifteen new posts of Additional Member (HAG+ level, same as GM) were created in March this year but appointment to these posts are yet awaited. Insiders say that careers of a large number of railway officers has stuck due to inordinate delay in filling up these newly created posts.

It was also rumoured that top authorities of the ministry establishment didn't want to operate these new 15 posts in the Rail Bhawan. So, a proposal was made, as per the allocation of newly created posts among eight cadres, to distribute these posts across Railway Zones. But, no action has been taken so far.

Contrary to the rumors Indianmandarins learns that Ministry of Railways has sent a proposal to the Department of Personnel & Training for its approval on Recruitment Rules (RR). Once the terms and norms (RR) are approved the Railway Board will start its bit to fill these posts.

It may be mentioned that of 15 newly created posts; IRAS earned 2 posts; IRSE, IRSEE & IRSME earned 03 posts each whereas IRPS, IRTS, IRSS & IRSSE earned 01 post each. In addition, approx. 5 posts of Additional Member are already lying vacant which too may filled up together with newly created posts.
