The war of words between Sanjiv Chaturvedi, Uttarakhand cadre IFS officer, known for his tough stands against corruption, and Union Government has further intensified. The latest provocation being assertions made by Sanjay Jain, Additional Solicitor General before Delhi High Court in September during the hearing of a PIL regarding pending corruption cases of AIIMS, which was widely reported in media also.
Sanjay Jain had alleged that this was a proxy litigation, got filed by Chaturvedi. The officer immediately had shot back a very strong letter to the concerned ministry saying that the prayers of the said PIL were limited strictly to the investigation of pending corruption cases of AIIMS. He also reiterated that it simply defies common sense as to how the investigation of corruption into the most prestigious institute of the country can ever be a personal dispute or may result in any financial/professional gain for him. He cited a report of Parliamentary Committee which had castigated the govt's approach in tackling corruption at AIIMS, apart from various investigation reports of CBI. Chaturvedi said that statement given before the court further confirmed desperate attempts on the part of the govt to drag him into more and more litigations and to divert attention from core issue.
He further alleged that there has been a constant slander campaign against him for past many years without any material evidence and asked for an unconditional apology mentioning earlier instances. Senior layer Prashant Bhushan had filed a PIL for expeditious investigation of corruption cases of AIIMS and for recusal of the concerned minister from these cases in view of series of letters written for halting these inquiries. Delhi High Court had issued notices to J P Nadda and Sanjiv Chaturvedi, both in person, apart from Central Government, CVC and CBI in February 2015. The case is in final stage and next hearing is slated to take place on January 10th next year.
