The purpose of any administration is to serve the people. No administration has any power except the power delegated by the people for serving their interests. Nuh (Haryana, next door to Delhi) Deputy Commissioner Mani Ram Sharma apparently does not understand this cardinal principle of a democratic state. And it shows up in his action. Through an administrative fiat, he has undone what the 140-odd families village Marora in Mewat did to itself: change its name from Marora to Trump Village to mark the friendship between the US President and India's PM at a function on June 18 organized by Sulabh International. Sharma has reportedly said that no permission was taken before changing the name. As per the rule-book, according to him, this cannot be done." He has apparently forgotten that the rule book exists for the convenience of people and not the other way. If there was any deviation by the villagers, he should have devised a suitable procedure to let the people's act triumph. Instead of helping people and villagers in their small endeavor of changing the name of their village, he has, rather unwisely, set the administration against the people. Really amazing, isn't it?
