This specialized National Academy of Coastal Policing (NACP) was conceptualised in the aftermath of a major sea-borne terror attack in November 2008 in Mumbai. The academy will run temporarily for about three years from the fisheries department campus at Okha. In the meantime, a new permanent campus for NACP is being established in Devbhoomi Dwarka district. It will be run by a multi-agency team of paramilitary and defence forces. BPR&D is piloting the establishment and running of the academy. BSF will provide security to the campus. The Navy & Coast Guard is helping in designing "the training curriculum, providing skilled trainers". There may be few more officers in the fray but the name of K K Sharma is being discussed as the first chief of this Academy.
