Therefore, no one was surprised when he ordered renaming of the "Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disability' as "Divyangjan Sashaktikaran Vibhag.' However, officials have not yet appropriately translated the name in the English language to the department of empowerment of persons with divinely abled. The old English name continues to be in usage.
The continued application of the word 'disability' for divyangjan has pricked the conscience of many officers. They have pointed out that the placement of word divyangjan in bracket should have been marked by an appropriate change in the English name of the department which could have been alternatively called the department of differently abled or divinely-abled (divyanjan). However, this has not happened as is reflected in official communique.
For instance, while giving on March 1 the additional charge of secretary, Dept of Divyangjan under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment to Ameising Luikham (IAS:1981: AM) who is currently Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, please note that the old English name of the department was used.
"The competent authority has approved assignment of additional charge of the post of Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to Shri Ameising Luikham (IAS:1981:AM), Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs from 01.03.2017 to 06.03.2017 during the period of leave of Shri N. S. Kang (IAS:1983:PB)."
