NEW DELHI (26.05.2026): The Election Commission of India (ECI) on June 25, 2026 appointed Neelam Meena (IAS: 1998: WB) as the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal. The post of CEO was lying vacant after Manoj Kumar Agarwal (IAS: 1990: WB) was appointed as West Bengal Chief Secretary.
Meena will now cease to hold and hand over the charge of all work under the West Bengal government, which she may be holding before assuming office. Meena, while functioning as the CEO, will not hold any additional charge whatsoever under the state government except that she should be designated Principal Secretary to the Government in charge of Election Department in the State Secretariat.
