Not a single member of the minority communities is currently represented on the National Commission for Minorities. It is a statutory body which is comprised of a Chairman & five members representing Muslims, Christians, Parsis, Buddhists and Sikhs.
Parsi Member Dadi E Mistry was the last one to demit the commission on 07th March 2017 whereas Chairman Naseem Ahmed completed his tenure on 03 March 2017. The other members representing the other minority communities retired earlier.
Among the officers, ironically, Secretary (NCM) Amarendra Kumar Sinha (IAS:1981: UD) is the only senior who remains in the commission.
It may be noted that the Jain community is now notified as minorities but yet to find representation in the commission. During H D Devegauda's regime, Neminath was there in the commission but not as Member (Jains).
As against the general conception, it is not necessary that NCM has a Muslim as its Chairperson. For instance,Tarlochan Singh headed the commission during 2001.
