Hours after the Prime Minister's visit to Brussels concluded, South Block's diplomat in-charge of the visit, K Nandini Singla, was named as India's next envoy to Portugal. Singla, who negotiated the joint statements with the EU and Belgium, has been rewarded with the coveted posting. The 1997-batch IFS officer had proven her mettle as director of the Americas division, when she had played a key role in the PM's first visit to the US in 2014. Her husband, Sanjeev Singla, is one of the private secretaries to PM Narendra Modi.
