Amid ongoing Coronavirus crisis, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a relief package of Rs 1.70 lakh crore for various sectors to deal with it. She announced a slew of measures covering various sectors especially poor and vulnerable.

These measures announced under the Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Yojana are like this:

  1. Around 86.9 million farmers will be benefited through DBT. Instalment of Rs 2000 will be transferred in their account in the first week of April.
  2. Rs 2000 per worker on average as additional income under MNRGEA. This will benefit five crore families.
  3. Poor widows, pensioners and divyang will be given ex-gratia additional support of Rs 1000 announced through DBT in two instalments in three months to help three crore beneficiary
  4. A support of Rs 500 per month for the next three month for for women Jan Dhan account holders.This will benefit 20 crore women through DBT.
  5. Nearly 8.3 crore BPL families will be benefited those covered under the Ujjwala scheme.They will be provided three cylinders for the next three months.
  6. Around 63 lakh SHGs that benefit seven crore households in the country. The FM announced doubling their collateral-free loans (from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh) for the SHGs.
  7. Government will pay the EPF contribution - both for employer (12%) and employee (12%) - for the next three months so that nobody suffers due to loss of continuity in the EPFO contribution. This will benefit 4.8 crore workers.
  8. There is a welfare fund for construction workers. The central government will direct the state governments to utilise Rs 31,000 crore in that fund to and protect those workers against any economic disruption. This will benefit 3.5 crore workers.
