The Gujarat Government named Ms Geetha Johari (IPS:1982:GJ) as new DGP of Gujarat after P P Pandey (IAS:1980:GJ) stepped down yesterday following SC orders. Prior to her appointment as DGP she served as Chief of State Police Housing Corporation, Gandhinagar. She became the first woman DGP of the state. Reportedly, Pramod Kumar (IPS:1983:GJ)too was in the race.
Gujarat's first woman IPS officer Geetha Johri was on 15th April 2015 promoted to DGP rank, days after the CBI had dropped charges against her in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. She will be retiring on 30th November 2017.
