The
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) transferred Indian Ambassador to Austria
Renu Pall (IFS:1988) to headquarters on December 9; over a month ahead of
completion of her tenure. Reportedly, MEA has restrained her from exercising
any administrative or financial powers of Ambassador. Reportedly,
the government took this move to recall Ms Pall for alleged financial
irregularity and misuse of government funds. Reportedly, she rented an
apartment for herself at Rs 15 lakh per month. Investigation ordered by the CVC
and conducted by MEA, she incurred huge expenditure to the tune of crores of
rupees on the government residence without the permission of the ministry. A
team headed by MEA CVO visited Vienna in September to conduct the
investigation. In its report submitted to the CVC, the team prima facie
confirmed financial irregularities, misappropriation of funds and breach of
conduct rules.
