Many senior IFS officers are clueless about the appointment
of Secretary (West); a key post under the Ministry of External Affairs. The
post fell vacant after senior diplomat Anumula Gitesh Sarma (IFS:1986) was on
Oct 07, 2019 appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Australia.
After Sarma took over the charge in Australia the post fell vacant. It may be
mentioned that Gitesh Sarma was in September 2018 appointed as Secretary (West)
after Ruchi Ghanashyam moved as High Commissioner, IHC London. Surprisingly, MEA website is not updated leaving its visitors
clueless about the status of the post of Secretary (West). Though it displays
the names of secretaries in MEA; Vijay Gokhale (Foreign Secretary), R Madhu
Sudan (DS, FSO), Ms. Vijay Thakur Singh (Secretary, East), T S Tirumurti (Secretary, Economic Relations)
but no further information/status about Secretary (West).
