Ministry of External Affairs of India is treading very carefully on the issue of deporting foreign journalists producing unsubstantiated or one-sided reports on Delhi riots. Ministry of information and broadcasting is monitoring reporting by foreign media on the day to day basis. A complaint against Wall Street Journal’s South Asia bureau head Eric Bellman has been registered whose reporting has been found the most biased.

Ministry of external affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar has acknowledged that complain against Eric Bellman has been registered on government’s online grievance redressal platform which has been referred to the related office. Actually the ministry is trying to play it down by calling it a routine matter and no such decision of his deportation is taken so far.

However, sources said that the government will is keeping a watch on the writings of foreign journalist and in case it is found objectionable, the government will not hesitate to initiate appropriate action including deportation. A section of people in the government have advised to refrain from taking such a drastic measure at the moment but the government is also of the view that it cannot remain mute a spectator on misinformation campaign.
