There seems to be emerging a new crisis of confidence among IPS officers under probation as 101 out of 122 probationers failed in subjects like Maintaining Public Peace and Order. The re-exams were conducted at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA). The IPS probationers had a record level failure in one or more subjects like the Indian Evidence Act, IPC, Ethics and other subjects but this should not be seen as an alarming situation as such. It is pertinent to note that cracking civil service examination is not easy. But the fact remains that all the trainee IPS officers need to undergo rigorous training where they are trained to maintain Public Order and need to clear the Indian Evidence Act, IPC and Ethics. Their high failure rate is not at all encouraging sign. Further it is reported that SVPNPA is expected to undergo a major revamp by deferring graduation of cadets till they complete both phases of training. This means, there will be no passing out parade in 2018 unlike previous years. As per earlier schedule, they would have graduated in August 2018. Now, they will do so next year.
