H L Dattu has become the 42nd Chief Justice of India after he was administering the oath of office in New Delhi on yesterday. Handyala Lakshminarayanaswamy Dattu will be serving in the chair till November 2015. Justice R M Lodha, the 41st CJI, retired on Saturday. Justice Dattu will be heading a Bench which is dealing with the issues pertaining to newly bifurcated states Andhra Pradesh & Telangana.
Justice Dattu, a native of Karnataka, started his career on 23 October 1975 in Karnataka when he got enrolled as an advocate at the bar. Prior to joining Supreme Court as Judge in December 2008 he served as Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court in February 2007 and shortly afterwards he was shifted to the Kerala High Court as Chief Justice.
