Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has taken oath as the 47th Chief Justice of India. Justice Bobde was administered oath of office by President of India Ram Nath Kovind who succeeded CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

Justice Bobde too was part of the five-judge constitution bench that rendered a unanimous verdict to put the curtains down on the vexatious Ayodhya land dispute which was pending in courts since 1950. Justice Bobde will have a tenure of over 17 months as the CJI and is due to retire on April 23, 2021.
