After the incumbent Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi
recommended name of Sharad Arvind Bobde to be the next CJI, the Presidential
warrant has followed the recommendation now. Justice Bobde is all set to become
47th CJI after President Ram Nath Kovind on October 29 has signed a warrant
appointing the 63-year-old senior-most Supreme Court judge to the post. Justice Bobde will take charge of the top court on November
18, a day after the present CJI demits office. Justice Bobde is part of the
five-judge constitution bench hearing the longest running Ayodhya case and in
which the order is expected by November 18, before CJI Gogoi retires. Justice
Bobde was elevated to the Supreme Court in April 2012 after serving as chief
justice of the Madhya Pradesh high court.
