joint-secretary-dwivedi-reinstated-in-mha After a never-ending saga of sleepless nights Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer Gopal Krishna Dwivedi has been reinstated and his services has been placed on 'Compulsory wait' in Dept of Personnel & Training. Reportedly, the Govt took the decision on 18 October 2016. The 1993 batch IAS officer had been in the eye of storm over the renewal of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence to controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik's NGO Islamic Research Foundation (IRF). In addition to Gopal Krishna Dwivedi (IAS:1993:AP) suspension had been recommended (in the first week of September) against three more MHA officials of the levels of Under Secretary, Section Officer and Dealing Assistant for their negligence in clearing the renewal despite several ongoing probes against IRF. Meanwhile, Susheel Kumar (IAS: 1982: UP), Secretary, Border Management, was entrusted with the task of delving deep into the details of how the FCRA licence was issued while the NGO is under intense investigation. if some well placed sources are to be believed, the report found that Dwivedi was not at fault. After suspension several senior bureaucrats and his colleagues posted in MHA had approached Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi to express their concern. Keeping in view the immense pressure from PMO for stringent action against such lapse, many ohters eventually stayed away from openly defending Dwivedi. All well that ends well; finally Dwivedi is back in his seat after witnessing a never-ending saga of sleepless nights.
