jaishankar-may-join-tata-sons-boardIndianmandarins has reliably learnt that former External Affairs Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar (Retd IFS:1978) may get a berth on the board of Tata Sons. He may simultaneously also function as the Resident Representative of Tata in Delhi. He is said to have been offered a highly attractive package including a bungalow in Lutyens' Delhi. Before and after Jaishankar's retirement, speculations were thick about his accommodation in the PMO including the National Security Agency. However, having played a frontal role in changing India's foreign policy in the last three years, he might not have been inclined to playing a subsidiary role in any capacity. His association with Tata Sons, if it comes about, may enable him to further the pragmatic aspects of the country's external economic relations besides exposing him to the dynamics of economic relations between India and world. For Tata Sons, it would get a mature and expert foreign policy expert to carry its overseas footprints further - particularly in the USA and the EU.
