jain-replaces-mullik-as-cs-maharashtraAs speculated earlier (Report dated 17 Dec 2017) Dinesh Kumar Jain (IAS:1983:MH) finally appointed new Chief Secretary, Govt of Maharashtra. He will have nine-month brief tenure as CS as he will be retiring on 31 January 2019. Prior to this Jain served as Additional Chief Secretary (Finance). The outgoing Chief Secretary Sumit Mullik, who retired on April 30, would soon be taking over charge as the Chief information commissioner of the state. In Jain's appointment the government has set aside seniority of at least two senior civil servants, Ms Medha Gadgil (IAS:1983:MH) and Sudhir Kumar Shrivastava (IAS1983:MH), which in all likelihood may be challenged in the court. While Shrivastava is scheduled to retire in October this year, Gadgil's term is till August 2019. Reportedly, Maha Govt did not consider Gadgil for the top job because her husband Anant Gadgil is Congress Spokesperson and an MLC. Shrivastava missed the bus for he has only four months in hand to deliver.
