IPS officer and former investigator in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case, Satish Verma, has moved Gujarat high court after the state government gave him the notice to vacate his house in Ahmedabad. Verma is posted as Inspector General with Central Reserved Police Force in the north-eastern state of Tripura. He has contended that as an officer posted in NE region, he is entitled to two HRAs or two houses - one at the place of his posting in NE state and the second at his last posting place. He has also highlighted the fact that the state government regularized his possession of the government quarter in the city in April. But for whatever circumstances, it changed its view and issued an eviction notice. His request to reconsider the eviction notice was turned down. Justice RH Shukla is likely to hear the case on Friday, said Verma's counsel IH Syed. Verma aggressively probed the encounter case as a member of the SIT set up by the high court. He was the first to come out and declare the encounter as fake. After the HC handed over the probe to CBI, the central agency sought Verma's help and it took HC intervention to make the state government spare him for the probe. After a change of regime at the Centre, Verma was posted as chief vigilance officer of North-Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) at Shillong. From here, he has been posted in CRPF in Tripura.
