Chandigarh (17.12.2025): The Haryana Government has sent a revised panel of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the selection of the new Director General of Police (DGP). Despite former DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapur (IPS: 1990: HY) recently being relieved from the post, his name is once again included in the list, even after he was reportedly compelled to take leave following the suicide of a colleague Y Puran Kumar (IPS: 2001: HY).
This submission comes as the state anticipates a vacancy with the current officiating DGP O P Singh (IPS: 1992: HY) scheduled to retire on December 31, 2025. Shatrujit Kapur formally handed over charge at the police headquarters on Sunday, resolving the procedural issues that had previously hindered the state from officially notifying the vacancy. The Haryana Government has now officially informed the UPSC that a clear vacancy will arise upon O P Singh's retirement.
