SHIMLA (26.05.2026): Putting speculations to rest to the
prospect of extension, the Himachal Pradesh government has regularised Sanjay
Gupta (IAS: 1988: HP), Additional Chief Secretary, Town and Country Planning,
as Chief Secretary of the state just five days ahead of his retirement. However,
Gupta has been holding additional charge of the coveted position (CS) since
October 1, 2025 after the retirement of Prabodh Saxena (IAS: 1990: HP). Gupta
is scheduled to retire on May 31, 2026. In a very strange and peculiar kind of notification, the
state government on September 30, 2025 ordered his transfer by giving him a new
charge in the rank, status, and responsibility equivalent to the Chief
Secretary of the state. It is to be seen whether he hangs his boots or continues
further beyond May 31, 2026. ALSO READ Himachal likely to get a new CS; extension a remote possibility
