The son-in-law of Nripendra Mishra (PS to PM) and the son of Chaudhary Birendra Singh, Union Minister of Rural Development, have happily found a place on the empanelment list of 1998 batch IAS officers. On Wednesday, 19 of the 1998 batch officers were empaneled as Jt Secretary.
May it be recalled that in March this year, 42 of 1998 batch IAS officers qualified for JS empanelment but six were dropped as their ACRs were not available until the last moment. Finally, 36 names were sent to PMO for consideration, of which only 23 were cleared. What transpired in the file's journey from DOPT to PMO has surprised the higher bureaucracy.
However, the absence of few names in the empanelment list was puzzling. The name of Ritwik Ranjanam Pandey (IAS:1998:KN), son-in-law of Principal Secretary to PM, didn't appear on the list. Similar was the case of Brijendra Singh (IAS:1998:HY), son of Minister Ch Birendra Singh. While some see the event as representing objectivity of the PMO, some saw in a different light.
