New Delhi (23.04.2025): River Yamuna or Kalindi has religious, cultural, as well as civilizational importance. Gaga river’s chief tributary Yamuna merges with it in Prayagraj but unfortunately, it may extinct if major efforts are not taken to protect and rejuvenate it. This is where the role of an expert civil servant like Asok Kumar G (Retd IAS: 1991: TG) comes who will be addressing on the idea of rejuvenating Yamuna from his rich experience of leading the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). He was associated with the National Mission for Clean Ganga since 2019 and was its Director General from 2022 to 2024. As Mission Director, National Water Mission, he coined ‘Catch the Rain’ slogan and was popular as the Rain Man. But post- retirement, he wants to continue his unfinished work on water conservation and River rejuvenation. Yamuna River needs more attention from people like Asok Kumar G. The water quality of Yamuna and filth along its banks was a major cause of concern and cheap politicking. The previous Delhi government led-by AAP missed every deadline to clean 22-kilometre-long stretch of Yamuna in Delhi but the new BJP government seems to be little more positive on cleaning Yamuna with the entire Delhi cabinet reaching bank of Yamuna immediately after swearing in. But Asok Kumar’s experience on the subject could be very helpful for reviving Yamuna in Delhi which is facing an existential crisis. He will be speaking on the subject on May 23 at 6 PM in the Conference Room 1, Main Building, IIC, Delhi. ALSO READ Catch the Rain slogan assumes significance (29.05.2023).png)
