The decision comes days after Opposition parties demanded the transfer of some IAS and IPS officers in the State to ensure free and fair conduct of the Assembly election. Rathore is the third senior-most DGP in the state after Seema Agrawal and Rajeev Kumar. He has served as Inspector General of Police, National Disaster Response Force, while on deputation with the Government of India. 

The ECI said the order would take immediate effect and the officer transferred out shall not be posted in any election related posts till the completion of elections.

Meanwhile, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) postponed the Empanelment Committee Meeting scheduled on March 20, 2026, to shortlist the names of 3 DGP candidates fit for appointment as DGP/HoPF of Tamil Nadu police.
