Chattopadhyaya’s name missing from UPSC panel; Punjab may go to SC

1581New Delhi (05.01.2022): In a major setback to Navjot Singh Sidhu, UPSC has disagreed with the Punjab Government’s choice of having incumbent Siddharth Chattopadhyaya as the DGP. It has empanelled Dinkar Gupta (IPS: 1987: PB), VK Bhawra (IPS: 1988: PB) and Prabodh Kumar (IPS: 1988: PB) for the top job. However, the Punjab government may approach the SC against the UPSC panel to delay the appointment. Bhawra appears to be the frontrunner as Gupta and Kumar have opted for central posting. Gupta was the DGP during the Capt Amarinder Singh regime. Chattopadhyaya and Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota have not found favour with the UPSC selection committee.
